Butterscotch Chocolate Waffles

It’s National Dessert Day!So we’ve chosen an incredibly indulgent recipe that can be eaten as dessert –or breakfast! Whatever time of day you decide to indulge, these butterscotch chocolate waffles will certainly leave you feeling satisfied (and maybe wanting more!).

Ingredients

To serve

  • Warmed maple syrup

  • Strawberries

Method

  • In a large bowl mix together all the dry ingredients

  • Combine the wet ingredients together and add this to the dry ingredients. Beat the batter until it is smooth then leave to rest for 5 minutes.

  • Place the chocolate into a microwave safe bowl and heat in a microwave in 20 second bursts, stirring in between, until just melted. Alternatively place the chocolate in a heat proof bowl and set this over a pan of boiling water until melted, making sure the boiling water doesn’t touch the base of the bowl.

  • Fold the melted chocolate carefully into the waffle batter until evenly combined.

  • Spray the waffle maker with vegetable oil spray and heat the unit on a high heat.

  • When the waffle maker is hot, pour the batter into each recess, making sure the batter fills all the moulds, do not overfill otherwise there will be overspill.

  • Bake the waffles for 4-6 minutes (different waffle maker times may vary) until crispy then remove and place on a wire rack, or keep them crispy in a low oven until ready to serve.

  • Repeat with the remaining batter until you have a stack of waffles.

  • Serve the waffles stacked and topped with warmed maple syrup and freshly sliced strawberries.
